Witness a city in transformation, glimpse exotic animals,
explore the past and enjoy that beach before the crowds.

Croatia’s
architectural and musical
gem lies inland.
Forget Croatia’s
beloved coast: The inland city Varazdin is one of the country’s most
picturesque and well-preserved areas. One hour north of Zagreb, this small metropolis of 50,000 has
an immaculate cobblestoned town center and is stocked with Baroque churches and
palaces like the Draskovic. The theme continues with an annual Baroque music
festival, but that’s where it ends. Other music-themed festivals and concerts
are decidedly modern and change from year to year: One, the Radar Festival, for
contemporary stars, has drawn names such as Bob Dylan and Carlos Santana, and
various other festivals throughout the year such as Spancir Fest,
celebrated from the end of August to September, attract artists and
musicians from around Europe. — SHIVANI VORA

Lifestyle and travel writer Shivani Vora considers herself
lucky to live in her favorite place in the world: New York City. While Manhattan’s
Upper East Side is home, she’s constantly
venturing off to a new part of the world. Her recent exploits include a food
and wine walking journey through Piedmont, hiking the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, taking a cooking class in Marrakesh, running the seawall at Stanley
Park in Vancouver,
chocolate tasting in Modica, Sicily and
getting a four-handed massage while overlooking the Nile
River in Cairo. Then, there are her yearly trips to
her birthplace of India
where the adventures are too innumerable to mention.
She always had the instinct for exploration, but her passion
for scoping out new destinations and rediscovering old ones was fueled while
she was the travel writer at Forbes.com.
She is a regular contributor to the New York Times and has
written on trends, travel, lifestyle, beauty, food and business for dozens of
publications including the Wall Street Journal, National Geographic Traveler, T
Magazine, Departures.com, Time, Fortune, Four Seasons Magazine, Real Simple,
Fodors.com, Inc., Parents, Saveur,
Travel and Leisure.
Shivani is most excited about her newest venture: the New
York Times recently launched India Ink, a section devoted to the Indian
diaspora around the world. Shivani will be covering the Indian scene including
fashion, food and entertainment from New
York. Read India Ink here:

When she’s not in front of her computer or planning her next
trip, she’s likely experimenting with a new recipe in the kitchen, absorbed in
a good book, working out and either full of guilt about not spending enough
time with her two daughters or feeling like the world's greatest mother for having
managed to balance it all...at least for that week.
