Over the decades, the Napa landscape has changed as much as the essence of our wines. Napa has become a most beautiful agricultural valley, a manicured garden 30 miles in length, and its Cabernet is one of the world’s most revered wines.
Even at Caymus, our approach to producing our top wine has evolved considerably. From the days of me by my Father’s side punching down fermenters with the simple goal of making a good wine that would sell, to today using some of those same techniques with the goal to make a top wine of our Valley. By luck I grew up in the Rutherford farmland with grapes and prunes surrounding our farmhouse.

OUR FAMILY
In 1971 Charles F. (Charlie) Wagner and his wife Lorna Belle Glos Wagner asked their son Charles J. (Chuck) Wagner, who had just graduated from high school, if he would be interested in joining them in starting up a winery. If Chuck declined the offer, Charlie and Lorna were planning to sell out of their ranch in Napa Valley and move to Australia. Chuck accepted his parents’ offer to launch the winery, Caymus Vineyards.
The Wagners produced their first vintage in 1972, consisting of 240 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. Since then, Caymus has focused their efforts in the production of quality Cabernet Sauvignon. Today’s production is 65,000 cases.

Caymus Vineyards offers an intimate seated tasting in a private setting hosted by one of our wine educators – maximum 8 people. This tasting lasts approximately 45-50 minutes and features four wines, including our Caymus Vineyards Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon. Guests will also enjoy a small selection of artisanal cheeses matched with your wine selections. This experience is available by appointment for a fee of $40 per person.
Guests are also received on a walk-in basis with the last tasting at 4:30 p.m. Parties of 6 or more MUST arrange an appointment in advance – please call 707.967.3010. There is a $30 per person fee for a selection of four wines produced by the Wagner family.

DIRECTIONS: From Napa, proceed north on HWY 29 to HWY 128/Rutherford Road and turn right. Go east on Rutherford Road for 1-1/2 miles. At T-intersection (Conn Creek Road), turn right. Our tasting room is on your left.
