More than 7,000 seats will be offered on discounts in
participating theaters, with some plays offered for free and others at just one
‘luca.’
Theater aficionados will have the opportunity this weekend
to see Chilean actors performing in action at special discounted prices.
The National Council for Culture and the Arts is once again
sponsoring the initiative “Teatro a Luca” in celebration of Theater Day —
which, in a span of three days, will feature a total of 44 works for 1,000
pesos or less.
Discounted seating is limited, however, and must be picked
up at the box office of each theater. In total, there will be 7,523 seats
available in 27 theaters, including the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM)
in downtown Santiago
and the Teatro del Puente in Parque Forestal.
“It is an opportunity that one should not pass up,” said
Cultural Minister Luciano Cruz-Coke.
Friday’s showings include “Déjate Perder” at the Teatro del
Puente about a man and woman who appear happy in order to avoid a separation
that seems inevitable. On Saturday GAM will show a Chilean adaption of
Shakespeare's classic, “Hamlet,” while the Chilean National Theater hosts
"Animas de Día Claro" by Chilean playwright and folk-music legend,
Víctor Jara.
In Valparaíso, a tribute will be made Saturday to the
Valparaíso Theater Group (ATEVA). The group is the oldest the country, having
existed for 60 years.
Theater Day started in 2006 in commemoration of the late
director Andrés Pérez, remembered most prominently for his production “La Negra
Ester.”

official website.
