Russian Singer Dmitri Hvorostovsky Seeks Cancer Treatment at London Hospital

A source close to the singer's family told Interfax, as reported by Russia Beyond The Headlines, on June 25 that Hvorostovsky will seek medical care in London after he was diagnosed with a possibly malignant brain tumor.
The source said, "Dmitri will have a course of treatment at London's cancer hospital Royal Marsden."
Another report posted on the singer's Facebook page says:
"It is with great regret that Dmitri must cancel all performances from now until the end of August. He has recently been suffering from serious health issues, and a brain tumor has just been diagnosed. Although his voice and vocal condition are normal, his sense of balance has been severely affected. Dmitri will begin treatment this week and remains very optimistic for the future."
However, it remains uncertain how long his treatment may take and doctors are unable to comment until more tests are conducted. The singer is currently with his family in London.
Born Oct. 16, 1962, Hvorostovksy graduated from a teachers' training college in Krasnoyarsk and the Krasnoyarsk Institute of the Arts. He was a soloist of the Krasnoyarsk State Theater of Opera and Ballet as well.
He gained international recognition in 1989 when he won the Cardoff Singer of the World competition. Having performed on stages worldwide, his catalog includes recitals at the Met Opera in New York, Covent Garden in London and Vienna State Opera.
