About Dubai
History
Dubai
is one of the seven emirates that make up The United Arab Emirates and is ruled
by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice
President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
Oil was first discovered in the 1950’s shortly followed by
the first export of oil from Abu Dhabi
in 1962. Dubai
is the most modern and progressive Emirate in the UAE, developing at an
unbelievable pace in the tourist and trade sectors especially.
Climate
Dubai is situated on a coastal strip bordered by desert and
gets very hot during the summer months of May to September reaching up to 54°C
(129°F) in the city and even higher in the desert. It is dry on the hottest
days and humid during the cooler days in the summer. Cooler weather lasts from
the end of September to beginning of May although daily temperatures still
being 20°C-25°C (68°F-77°F) making Dubai an all year destination.
Travel
Dubai is only a 5 hour flight
away from Central Europe and now with direct flights to the US you can reach New York in less than 14 hours. Dubai Airport
is one of the largest in the world flying directly to over 150 locations from
numerous airlines.
Dubai's Metro public
transport system is probably the best in the Middle East
but it's still a very car-oriented city and most visitors end up taking taxis
due to reasonably prices. The red metro line opened in September 2009 and the
green line followed in September 2011. The convenient red line goes directly to
the airport via most major tourist attractions including the Burj Khalifa,
Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates
Tourism
Due to its consistently beautiful weather, famous shopping
malls and extravagant attractions, millions of visitors currently visit Dubai and this number is
expected to rise to 15 million during 2012. Dubai boast over 195km of beautiful
clear beaches so there is no wonder it has one of the largest hotel occupancy
of 85% capacity all year round.
Dubai
has something for everyone. It has a fantastic shopping experience hosting the
world’s largest shopping mall, numerous golf courses, an indoor ski slope,
water parks, Desert Safari, The world’s tallest building, breath taking
architecture, the world’s only 7 star hotel, the man made Palm Jumeriah and if
that isn’t enough it boasts the already mentioned 195km of beautiful beaches
Lifestyle
Dubai offers a high standard of living with
its great weather, safe environment, vibrant nightlife, countless leisure
activities, great beaches and tax free earnings make it a lifestyle that for
many is rarely surpassed elsewhere. This makes it a very attractive location to
many with over 185 different nationalities currently residing in Dubai making it a modern,
cosmopolitan city.
Investments
Not only is property in Dubai still far cheaper than in most other
major cities but is also becoming easier to finance. Many international banks
have now entered the market like Standard Chartered, HSBC and Lloyds TSB which
has increased the availability attracting both local and overseas interest.
This isn’t a surprise with rental returns of up to 20%.
