Chefdirigent Markus Stenz eine positive Bilanz gezogen. „Es war eine großartige
Tour“, sagte der Kapellmeister des Traditionsorchesters vor Journalisten. „Bei
jedem Konzert ist dieser legendäre Funke, den wir auf die Bühne bringen wollen,
auf das Publikum übergesprungen.“

Schanghai. Mozart und Haydn
sind in China
nicht so der Hit, weiß der chinesische Musikkritiker Rudolph Tang zu berichten.
"Sie werden bei uns nicht sehr oft gespielt", erzählt der junge Mann,
der gleich für mehrere Zeitungen in Schanghai schreibt, aber auch Korrespondent
der Musikzeitschrift "Gramophone" ist. Mit der Musik Ludwig van
Beethovens verhält es sich da schon anders. Das Shanghai Symphony Orchestra
habe kürzlich zwei Zyklen der neun Sinfonien gespielt. "Die waren komplett
ausverkauft."

dancers, Heaven Behind the Door is a dance about the meeting of “two halves of
one’s soul”.
The dance is one of a series
of five in the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Contemporary Dance Series, a program
comprising as many as 50 musical, theatrical, dance and opera programs for the
upcoming 42nd Hong Kong Arts Festival, slated for Feb. 18 to March 23.
The London Symphony
Orchestra, the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, the Akram Khan Company, the
Trisha Brown Dance Company, the Guerzenich Orchestra Cologne are among the
international participants in the festival.
Hong Kong artists will be
represented by Cantonese operas and dramas in the festival’s New Stage Series,
which will stage four plays in Mandarin and Cantonese except for FILTH (Failed
in London, Try Hong Kong), which is the first English-language play
commissioned and produced by the Hong Kong Arts Festival.

The 42nd annual Hong Kong
Arts Festival (HKAF) officially opened on February 18, 2014 with the
performance by the Guerzenich Orchestra Cologne under the baton of Markus
Stenz, as per a release. The Festival showcases 138 performances by Asia’s top
talents alongside leading artists from around the world, an assorted mix of
classical and contemporary works that reaches an audience of 1, 20,000 people including
the participants of the Festival’s Young Friends Scheme, as per a release.
In addition to the 138
performances, two of which are free performances, the 42nd HKAF offers 222 PLUS
events and 81 activities for Young Friends of the Festival. Programmes include
21 new works/world premieres, as well as 16 Asian premieres. The various
theatre, music, dance and opera events will be conducted in different venues.
Some of which are Hong Kong Cultural Centre, HK Academy for Performing Arts,
and Hong Kong City Hall.
The Festival closes on March
23, 2014. Genres that can be witnessed at the 42nd HKAF include classical
music, Chinese music, world music, Western opera, Chinese opera, drama and
dance. Each festival includes concerts by each of Hong Kong Philharmonic
Orchestra, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
