Herman Oskarovich Gref (Russian: Герман Оскарович Греф, born February 8, 1964) is a Russian German statesman and top manager. He was the Minister of Economics and Trade of Russia from May 2000 to September 2007. He currently is the CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board of the largest Russian bank Sberbank.
In November 2007 Gref was elected as president of the state-owned savings bank Sberbank at an extraordinary general meeting. Under Gref’s leadership, the bank has undergone a number of radical changes aimed at improving its efficiency and corporate culture. Herman Gref is member of boards and supervisory boards of a number of companies, including Yandex.
Gref married the designer Yana on May 1, 2004 in the throne room of Peterhof Palace. His wife has a teenage son from a prior relationship, just as Gref has a son, Oleg, from his marriage with Yelena, who refused to move to Moscow when Herman Gref was called into the government in 1998. Since 2006 the couple has a daughter. Oleg studied jurisprudence in St. Petersburg until 2004 and moved to Germany for further education. Gref speaks German and loves Goethe and German Expressionism.

From August 14, 1998 to May 18, 2000, he served as the First Deputy Minister of State Property of the Russian Federation. From 1994 to 1998, he held various positions in the St. Petersburg government. Mr. Gref has been the Chairman of Board of Denizbank Anonim Sirketi since September 2012. He serves as the Chairman of the Board at Russian Venture Company. He serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Agency for Housing Mortgage Lending. He served as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Member of Supervisory Board of Subsidiary Bank Sberbank Of Russia Public Joint-Stock Company until September 5, 2016. He serves as a Director of Russian Venture Company. He has been a Non-Executive Director of Yandex N.V. since May 21, 2014. He has been a Member of Supervisory Board at Sberbank of Russia OJSC since March 2014. He has been a Member of the Supervisory Board of OJSC System Operator - Central Dispatching Office for UES since June 24, 2005. He served as a Director of OOO Burovaya Kompaniya Eurasia since July 2009. Mr. Gref served as a Member of Supervisory Board at Sberbank of Russia OJSC since June 24, 2005. In 1990, Mr. Gref graduated from the Faculty of Law of Omsk State University, specialising in jurisprudence. He holds a Ph.D in Economics. From 1990 to 1993, he took a postgraduate course at the Faculty of Law of Leningrad State University.
