Visiting EHO I saw the new GLAZBA posts, from Wunderlich and Kaufmann!
How interesting and so different in style, expression, colour, approach,
for example at Zauberflöte: Kaufmann articulates the words"ich fühl
es"in the beginning as if he describes the emotion,Wunderlich lives in
them, and that may be one of his topics,that he got 250% "into the role,in
the caracter" he had to perform, to express.That’ s not a rating about
those two phenomenal protagonists!!
The well known Bariton Hermann Prey, who was singing "Onegin"
when Wunderlich sang "Lensky", told, that if he (Prey) was too charming to Wunderlichs wife, Wunderlich
reacted extremely passionate "Lensky-like"- you have to know, they
were best friends in private life, and built their houses next to each other-.
My father listened Wunderlich when he was still a young student in Freiburg, performing the "Zauberflöte"with the
Hochschulorchester and told me, he had
never in his long professionel life experienced such a touching authentic
version like from this young guy.
All of Wunderlichs colleagues described him as an highly disciplined, self
critic and professionel artist who always was best prepared for all his
different kinds of performances, Opera, Operette, Lied, Oratorium, Concerts.........
I was a young boy, when my father appeared to dinner, in 1965, totally
quiet, not able to say one word and my mother asked him, later, what
happened.....he just said: world’s best tenor of these times has passed away......and
went into his music room.
I realized immediately from whom he was talking, becuase we all listened
often the records of Wunderlich at home.
