If we measure the
quality (and popularity) of haiku poetry by a number of international prizes,
then Croatia can be ranked
very high: immediately after Japan
and the USA
(1993, 1995). This is due to continuous efforts and enthusiasm of Vladimir
Devidé (1925-2010), a well known Croatian mathematician and japanologist. He
obtained a prestigeous Japanese "Order of Sacred Treasure'' - Konsanto
Zuihosho.
