Roy Dupuis
Michael on "La Femme Nikita"
Roy Dupuis' transition from his scientific passions to
theatre was particularly -- what else? -- dramatic. After being fascinated by
physics as a young man, Dupuis saw the movie "Moliere" one evening
and it changed the course of his life. He dropped his microscope and headed for
the stage.
Born in Ontario, Canada and raised in Quebec, Dupuis is known to American
audiences for his role in the TV miniseries based on the Dionne quintuplets,
"Million Dollar Babies."
However, his training began at the National Theater School
of Canada when Dupuis' friend chickened out of his audition at the last minute,
Dupuis stepped in, and was admitted to the school.
Dupuis' most recent
projects were "Easy Money," with Marlon Brando, and
"Hemoglobin" with Rutger Hauer. Other film credits include
"Jesus of Montreal," and "Screamers," the latter of which
marked Dupuis' entry into mainstream American cinema. Dupuis was seen at the
1991 Cannes Film Festival as the star of "Being at Home With Claude."
Dupuis was the recipient of the Best Actor award in the Cannes Audio/Video
Festival for his role in "Emily" and went on to star as the same
character in the sequel, "Blanche."
Dupuis is also no stranger to the boards, having wrestled
with the title roles in "Romeo and Juliet," and "Harold and
Maude." He has won numerous awards, such as two consecutive Metrostars
(Best Actor at the Gala Metrostar in 1991 and 1992, the Gemeau Award), Best
Actor in a Drama Series for Les Filles De Caleb in 1992, and the Rose D'Or, a
popular Canadian vote, for Actor of the Year in 1991.
When not keeping up with the gruelling schedule of
"La Femme Nikita," Dupuis resides in Montreal inside a recently acquired 1840s
farmhouse. He enjoys cross country skiing, skydiving and other athletic
endeavors, as well as fixing up his new hous
