Slovačko narodno pozorište se nalazi na Trgu Hviezdoslav. Izgrađeno je u periodu od 1885. do 1886. godine za vrijeme Austro-Ugarske u neo-renesansnom stilu, na temelju nacrta bečkih arhitekata Fellnera i Helmera koji su projektovali zgrade pozorišta u 10 evropskih zemalja. Izvorna zgrada je dizajnirana za 1000 gledalaca, a bila je osvijetljena pomoću 800 plinskih svjetiljki, dok je gledalište imalo luster sa 64 svjetiljke. Bratislavski kipar Victor Tilgner je 1888. izradio čuvenu Ganimedovu fontanu, koja se nalazi odmah ispred pozorišta.

Zgrada je bila sjedište slovačkog nacionalnog pozorišnog ansambla od 1920., a danas je sjedište samo opere i baletskog ansambla. Renovirana je u periodu od 1969. do 1972., kada je iza stare zgrade dodana moderna tehnička zgrada u kojoj se nalazi jedinstveni luster sa 2532 sijalice koje omogućuju kreiranje miliona kombinacija svjetlosnih slika u skladu sa odabranim programom.

Profesionální tanečník, pedagog a choreograf.  Jako  tanečník  a asistent  choreografie  působil v muzikálech Dracula, Cyrano z predmestia, Niekto to rad horúce, Hamlet, Grek Zorba, Cigáni idú do neba, Kleopatra, Hair, Fontána pre Zuzanu, Rocky Horror Show, Sweet Charity, West Side Story, František z Asissi, Bathoryčka, Osmy svetadiel ad. Tančil také v inscenacích opery a činohry Slovenského národního divadla Partybreakers, Kocúr na kolieskovych korčuliach, Kral´sa zabáva, Oblaky nebo Čarovná flauta. Jako tanečník účinkoval i v řadě tanečních a pohybových produkcí na Slovensku i v zahraničí. Vytvořil choreografie k mnoha inscenacím, z těch nejvýznamnějších zmiňme například Fame, Vyhadzovači, Hairspray či Mačky (Cats) na bratislavské Nové scéně, Carmen a la Gypsy Devils ve Slovenském národním divadle, Listy Emilovy ve Studiu L+S, Dvaja páni z Verony pro Letní shakespearovské slavnosti, Footloose v Divadle na Orlí v Brně nebo také show na ledě Maša a medveď. Choreograficky se podílel na mnoha komerčních akcích i televizních pořadech. Je choreografem a uměleckým šéfem tanečního seskupení Credance. Působil také jako pedagog v rámci letních mezinárodních workshopů Letavy a také v nadaci pro talentovanou romskou mládež Divé Maky.

It continued to the tradition of one of the most successful Slovak chamber theaters, Bratislava Dance Theatre (BDT), which confirmed justification of dance modernism among the domestic as well as foreign audience. The first premiere - Bolero/Story of a Mother – was introduced in the Bratislava Arena Theatre.

About SDT

The first premiere - Bolero/Story of a Mother – was introduced in the Bratislava Arena Theatre.

 SDT is an independent dance-theatre body based on project system without permanent artistic operation. It shall enable professional development of artistic interpreters: dancers, singers and actors. It is working on the principle of equality of dance with the other theatre genres. It offers space for coming across to young talents, interested in improvement of their movement culture. SDT, in the course of its short existence executed totally 134 performances in various cities of Central Europe. As the only body of this format, it presented in premi?re the author’s work of Ján Ďurovčík - Bolero/Story of a Mother - in Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.

In the Theatre Season 2008 / 2009, the dancers of the SDT participated in the successful world tour  “The Firebird World Tour“. During that period they presented performances in New York, London, Krakow, Amsterdam, the Polish town Bytom and Antwerpen. The latest work of Jan Durovcik for the SDT – Carmen – was premiered on March 2010, and currently is on its nationwide tour in Slovakia.
