Oscars 2015: Complete List of Winners & Program Highlights

'fear is the condom of life'

It's been a big year in movies, and the 87th Academy Awards commemorated and celebrated the films and people behind them in the biggest show this awards season. It has also been awhile since Barney Stinson was last in the small screen since "How I Met Your Mother" bid goodbye to television, and for the 2015 Oscars, it's good to see Manhattan's notorious bachelor onstage, hosting.

NPH hosted a lot show-stopping performances, dropping trou moments, and there were even beautifully inspiring speeches that brought audiences to tears.

However, during the In Memoriam segment of the show, a mix of rage and confusion came when a significant name was not included in the list of celebrities we lost in 2014 - comedian Joan Rivers. Her name is missing from the list because according to News Australia, she wasn't a member of the Academy, so she wasn't eligible.

Patricia Arquette's acceptance speech also lit up Twitter when she demanded equality for women, a huge roar of approval greeting her when she said, "It's our time to have wage equality once and for all." Three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep was even seen cheering on Arquette as she wraps up her speech.

Performer Lady Gaga also wowed (and shocked) a roomful of stars for her "The Sound of Music" medley, and she looked beautiful in her gown. Her tribute performance for Julie Andrews was truly wonderful. Was it even Gaga who performed in that lovely white dress?

John Travolta also came back to present an award... alongside Idina Menzel, whose name he famously mispronounced as "Adele Dazeem" at last year's show.

For the weird, there was a performance of "Everything is Awesome" from Tegan and Sara, with comedy trio, The Lonely Island, which raised a lot of eyebrows from the audience.

But host Neil Patrick Harris took the stage in his briefs, which was met with a roar of applause from the audience. Apparently, even Barney Stinson can get locked out of his dressing room. Some crazy ex-girlfriend snuck in the Dolby Theatre, maybe?

The Oscars still prove to be very entertaining, despite it's incredibly long program, but here are the big winners this year, as noted by Forbes:

Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore were both overjoyed with their wins for Best Actor and Best Actress at the Oscars, but it was Birdman director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu who stole the show. Birdman collected Best Picture and Inarritu won Best Director before producing the memorable quote "fear is the condom of life".
