On Tuesday, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands will abdicate in favour
of her son Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, who will become the King with his
wife Princess Maxima by his side as Queen consort.
A day of celebrations will begin early in the morning and
continue throughout the day, starting with the abdication ceremony in Amsterdam's Royal
Palace followed by an
all-important balcony appearance. In cities and villages across the kingdom
there will be festivities as the Dutch people welcome the new era.
Willem-Alexander will be the first male to ascend the throne
for 123 years, and will become King as the monarchy celebrates its bicentenary.

BREAKING NEWS: Dutch Queen Beatrix announced her abdication
as of April 30th, 2013.
After 33 years on the throne, she has decided to step down
from her position in the year in which two major events coincide: her 75th
birthday and the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Queen Beatrix' eldest son, 45-year-old crowne prince Willem-Alexander, will be
her successor. Queen's Day (30th of April) will from 2014 onwards be called
King's Day (27th of April). The inauguration of King Willem-Alexander will take
place in Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands.
