Bobby Kennedy and the FBI were warned of plans for an explosive book alleging his fling with actress Marilyn Monroe and plotting her death in 1962, a newly released file shows.

The 11-page document – addressed to the then-attorney general and FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover — reveals contents of Frank Capell’s 1964 book entitled “The Strange Death of Marilyn Monroe.”

It claims Kennedy, the younger brother of the slain president, had the iconic sex symbol killed when she threatened to expose their affair.

The book said “Miss Monroe’s involvement with Kennedy ‘was well-known to her friends and reporters in the Hollywood area,’ but was never publicized,” an FBI agent reported.

Capell — who lived on Staten Island — had gone to the FBI’s New York field office on July 2, 1964, to notify them he was writing the book, which would be published eight days later and sell for $2 a copy, according to the Daily Mail.

The document contains several memos, including one from Hoover to Kennedy, dated July 8, 1964, in which he wrote that Capell said he would “make reference to your alleged friendship with the late Miss Marilyn Monroe.”

The author intended to “indicate in his book that you and Miss Monroe were intimate and that you were in Miss Monroe’s apartment at the time of her death,” according to the memo.

Capell wrote that Kennedy, JFK’s brother, “had Communists ‘murder’ Miss Monroe” when she threatened to blow the lid on their affair, the Express of the UK reported.

“The author suggests that Miss Monroe ‘was led to believe his intentions were serious,’ and that Kennedy had promised to divorce his wife and marry her,” according to the memo, which cited the book.

“When he failed to do so, the book charges, she ‘threatened to expose their relationship,’ which would have ruined his presidential aspirations.

It was then that Kennedy decided ‘to take drastic action.’”

The “drastic action,” Capell wrote, was that “Kennedy used ‘the Communist Conspiracy which is expert in the scientific elimination of its enemies’ to dispose of Miss Monroe by making her murder appear to be a suicide.”

Monroe died Aug. 5, 1962, of a barbiturate overdose in her Los Angeles home.

Kennedy was in San Francisco with his wife at the time of Monroe’s death, according to one of the FBI memos, the Daily Mail reported.

The book failed to gain much public attention, but last year, a new piece of evidence offered further proof of an affair between Kennedy and Monroe when a letter from his younger sister, Jean Kennedy Smith, was found in Monroe’s belongings.

“Understand you and Bobby are the new item!” it says. “We all think you should come with him when he comes back East!”

The document was included in a batch of more than 2,800 declassified documents released Thursday to satisfy a 25-year deadline set forward by the Oct. 25, 1992, enactment of the JFK Assassination Records Collection Act.
