El racismo es un tema delicado que ha puesto en aprietos a varios famosos. La más reciente polémica fue el comentario que hiciera el conductor Rodner Figueroa contra Michelle Obama, en el que dijo que la primera dama de Estados Unidos, parecía del elenco de 'El planeta de los simios'. Este hecho provocó su expulsión inmediata de la cadena Univisión.
Por su parte el magnate Donald Trump recientemente sorprendió cuando despotricó contra México tras el triunfo de la película 'Birdman', dirigida por Alejandro Gonzáñez Iñárritu, en los premios Oscar. La cantante de 22 años, Miley Cyrus, fue acusada de racismo tras salir a la luz unas fotos en las que hacía una seña 'como rasgándose los ojos'. Una organización dedicada a ayudar al bienestar social y político de la población asiático-américana pidió que la actriz se rectificara y Miley tuvo que ofrecer disculpas públicMel Gibson también fue acusado de racista por insultos hacia judíos y afroamericanos. Su esposa, Oksama Grigorieva, lo grabó mientras este le lanzaba insultos racistas.
Otro caso muy sonado fue el del cantante italiano Tiziano Ferro, cuya carrera en México iba en repunte hasta que en el 2006 dijo que las mujeres mexicanas tenían bigote.as.

Rodner Figueroa, the openly gay style correspondent for Univision’s El Gordo y la Flaca, has been fired for comparing First Lady Michelle Obama to a character from "Planet of the Apes" during an on-air segment. Figueroa made the racist comments during a segment featuring Paolo Ballesteros, a Filipino actor and makeup artist with an uncanny ability to transform himself into different female celebrities using nothing but his formidable makeup skills.
While watching Ballesteros contour his face to resemble Michelle Obama’s Figueroa took the opportunity to comment on the First Lady’s appearance:
“You all know that Michelle Obama looks like she’s from the movie Planet of the Apes.”
Raúl De Molina, one of Figueroa’s co-hosts, attempted to diffuse the situation by repeatedly asserting that many people including himself found Mrs. Obama very attractive, but the damage had been done.
The live segment was broadcast to east coast audiences, but the racist remarks were edited out in time for the west coast broadcast. By the end of the day Univision had terminated Figueroa, wiped him from their official website, and and issued an official statement about their decision saying that his comments “were completely reprehensible and in no way reflect the values or opinions of Univision.”
Hours later Figueroa released a statement of his own apologizing for his comments and claiming that he was fired after White House representatives expressed their concern to Univision.
“I am embarrassed, I ask forgiveness, because there is no excuse for a professional like me to make comments like this that can be misinterpreted as offensive and racist during such a volatile time in our country,” he wrote. “I take responsibility for this error in judgment on my part, but I can not accept being called racist and fired like this, humiliated publicly by Univision, after 17 years there.”
He continued:
“I come from a biracial Latino family, with family members like my father, who are Afro-Latino. I am the first openly gay host on Spanish-language television and I have been an activist for causes to help minorities, who like me have been discriminated against. I voted openly two times for your husband, Barack Obama, because I consider him to be a great man who respects minorities like me in this country.”

Rodner Figueroa, the Univision host who was fired this week for suggesting Michelle Obama looking like she was in “the cast of ‘Planet of the Apes,’” has penned an open letter apologizing to the first lady.
Figueroa started a firestorm after making the racially charged remark during a segment about makeup transformations on “El Gordo Y la Flaca.”
“I want to clarify that I’m not racist and in no way was my comment directed at you, but rather the work of the [make up] artist, which left much to be desired,” Figueroa writes to the first lady during in his letter, which originally appeared in Spanish.
He goes on to point out that he twice voted for President Barack Obama, hails from a biracial family and abhors prejudice. Figueroa was one of the first openly gay personalities to be featured prominently on Univision. And prior to his dismissal he had been an Emmy award winner for his work in television.
Despite his lengthy apology to Michelle Obama, there appears to be no love lost between Figueroa and his now former network.
“I feel embarrassed, I ask for forgiveness, because there is no excuse for a professional like me to make those types of comments that can be interpreted as offensive and racist in a volatile moment that we live in our country. I take full responsibility for the lack of judgement in my part, but I can’t accept that I am being called a racist, being fired for that reason and being humiliated by Univision after working there for 17 years,” he writes.
“I was notified verbally that as a result of a complaint from your office I was fired, and as a result of a leak of information from the executives at Univision, I was condemned on social networks trying to destroy my career in an unjust manner, without even having notified me officially in writing and without an investigation that could have clarified this situation,” he added.
Univision called Figeuroa’s remarks “completely reprehensible” before terminating his contract on Thursday.

The Emmy winner and fashion host released an apology letter insisting that his comments were misinterpreted following his termination from Univision. Figueroa's statement came about during a recent episode of "El Gordo y la Flaca," Fox News Latino reported.
At the time, the show was airing a segment about Filipino make-up artist and entertainer Paolo Ballesteros, who is currently making headlines on Instagram for transforming himself into famous celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Cher, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez, Julianne Moore, and the First Lady. During the live show, Figueroa commented that Obama "looks like she was from the cast of 'Planet of the Apes,'" the news outlet noted.
"I would like to clarify that I am not a racist and my comments were in no way directed toward you, but toward the characterization made by the makeup artist," the 42-year-old host said in Spanish, as reported and translated by Fox News Latino. "I am embarrassed, I ask for forgiveness, because there is no excuse for a professional like me to make comments like this that can be misinterpreted as offensive and racist during such a volatile time in our country."
Figueroa, however, thinks his termination from the TV network is unfair.
"I take responsibility for this error in judgment on my part, but I cannot accept being called a racist and fired like this, humiliated by Univision, after 17 years there," the television personality added. "I come from a bi-racial Latino family, with family members like my father, who are Afro-Latino. I am the first openly gay host on Spanish-language television and I have been an activist for causes to help minorities, who like me have been discriminated against."
Figueroa won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2014, according to the Associated Press. He has been with Univision as a fashion expert for 17 years and was a mainstay on "El Gordo y la Flaca" since 2000.
Univision confirmed Figueroa's firing on Thursday, describing the Venezuelan-American TV host's quips as "completely incomprehensible" and "in no way a reflection of the values and opinions of Univision," Fox News Latino quoted the network as saying.
The First Lady didn't publicly address the TV host's remarks, but Figueroa's representatives claim that no one from Univision complained about the episode, Daily Mail wrote. However, later that night after the show aired, "a Univision executive reportedly contacted the TV presenter and informed him that the first lady's office had made a complaint about the remark," the report added.

La fama del presentador Rodner Figueroa ha alcanzado niveles estratosféricos después de comparar a Michelle Obama, primera dama de Estados Unidos, con uno de los monos de la famosa película 'El planeta de los simios' durante su intervención en el programa 'El Gordo y La Flaca' de la cadena Univisión.
El desafortunado comentario se produjo mientras los tertulianos del espacio televisivo discutían sobre el trabajo del maquillador Paolo Ballesteros, célebre por compartir en las redes sociales sus caracterizaciones de famosas, como Julia Roberts o, en este caso, Michelle Obama.
"Ojo, ustedes saben que Michelle Obama parece del elenco de 'El planeta de los simios', de la película. Es difícil [caracterizarse como ella]", comentó Figueroa para sorpresa de todos sus compañeros, que intentaron encubrir su metedura de pata defendiendo la belleza de la mujer de Obama.
"A mí me parece una mujer muy atractiva", aseguró automáticamente la estrella televisiva Raúl de Molina.
El hecho de que el programa se emita en directo impidió que los productores pudiesen censurar el comentario, que sí fue eliminado antes de su difusión en la costa oeste.
La cadena Univisión ya ha anunciado el despido inmediato de Figueroa, que hasta ahora había sido una de sus mayores estrellas como copresentador del programa 'Sal y Pimienta' y experto en moda, trabajo por el cual ganó un Emmy el año pasado.
"En Univisión no hay espacio para comentarios racistas", confirmó un alto ejecutivo de la cadena a People en Español.
Su biografía oficial y todas las fotos y vídeos en los que aparecía ya han sido retirados del portal de Univisión.
