The Tokyo
String Quartet
delighted the Kölner Philharmonie with an exceptional program
The most manifold "musical revolutionary" of his time, Joseph
Haydn with his op 64,No 4, Paul Hindemith,op 16,No 3,a thrilling masterwork,a
musical landmark in Hindemiths career as composer, violist, organisator:it was
written for the "Donaueschingen Festival of contemporary Music"- the
Festival was founded by Hindemith himself, in 1921, the original designated
ensemble was deeply overstrained with the difficulties of this piece,so
Hindemith consequently formed his own ensemble, the Amar Quartet with himself as
violist and up from this moment his international career as composer and
interpreter started all over Europe.
Wolfgang Rihm, one of the most outstanding German’s 20 th century
composers, Head of the "Institut für Moderne Musik in Karlsruhe" wrote
his "Zwischen den Zeilen"for Straing Quartet in 1991, a 3 minute last
miniature of magic radiation, expressive, minimalistic, "Webern-like....",.....one
breath, and that's it!!! full of impressions of Rihm, the audience followed the
last piece in program of fabulous, excellent performing Tokyo String Quartet, Schumann's op 41,No 3
