* The Pavilion of Cheerful Melodies (Changyin ge), built in the Qianlong Period (1736-96) of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), is the largest opera theater in the Forbidden City. It was renovated and newly opened in September this year. Eventually, dramas from the period will be performed here. Opposite to the Pavilion of Cheerful Melodies is the Hall for Viewing Opera (Yueshi lou) where audiences enjoyed performances.

President Xi Jinping and first lady Peng Liyuan accompanied visiting US President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, on a tour of three main halls at Beijing's Palace Museum on Wednesday afternoon.

* The three main halls including Hall of Supreme Harmony (Taihe dian), Hall of Central Harmony (Zhonghe dian) and Hall of Preserving Harmony (Baohe dian) are all in the outer court of the museum, which is also known as the Forbidden City.

President Xi Jinping and first lady Peng Liyuan meet for tea with visiting US President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania. The informal meeting took place at the Hall of Embodied Treasures during Trump's tour of the Palace Museum.

* The Palace Museum, established in The Forbidden City, in the center of Beijing, in 1925, was the imperial palace of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. The magnificent architectural complex and the vast holdings of paintings, calligraphy, ceramics, and antiquities of the imperial collections make it one of the most prestigious museums in China and the world. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987.

BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan welcomed their US counterparts with an informal afternoon tea at the Palace Museum Wednesday afternoon.

US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump arrived in Beijing earlier on Wednesday.

They had the afternoon tea in the Baoyun Building, also known as the Hall of Embodied Treasures, in the southwestern corner of the Forbidden City.

Built in 1915, the Baoyun Building is a Western-style building in the former imperial compound. It was used to store antiques, but now serves as an exhibition hall for the museum's history

High-level China-US dialogues drive bilateral ties forward

WASHINGTON - High-level dialogues established between China and the United States have been delivering fruitful results and creating a more dynamic China-US relationship, say experts.

More talks between the world's two largest economies will further enhance cooperation and drive their relations forward.

TALKS BRING RESULTS

The year 2017 has so far witnessed successful convening of four high-level dialogues between China and the United States.

In June, the two sides held high-level talks on diplomatic and security issues, vowing to promote bilateral ties by broadening cooperation and managing differences.
