Wladimir Klitschko(Ukrainian: Володи́мир Володи́мирович Кличко́ [Volodymyr Volodymyrovych Klychko]; born 25 March 1976) is a Ukrainian professional boxer who competes in the heavyweight division. He is a multiple-time world champion.
Klitschko has held a piece of the world heavyweight championship since 2006, when he defeated Chris Byrd to win the International Boxing Federation world championship. In addition to that title, Klitschko is the reigning champion of two of the other three major sanctioning bodies, the World Boxing Association (which recognizes him as its Super champion) and the World Boxing Organization, as well as the International Boxing Organization's championship. He has held the IBO championship since defeating Byrd, the WBO championship since defeating Sultan Ibragimov in 2008, and the WBA championship since defeating David Haye in 2011.
Klitschko is also recognized as champion by The Ring and the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, and is considered to be the lineal heavyweight champion. He was awarded The Ring championship when he defeated Ruslan Chagaev in 2009.
Overall, he is the second longest reigning Heavyweight Champion of all time and has the second most successful title defenses total of any heavyweight boxer with 22 (including his "super" title recognition), behind just Joe Louis and ahead of Larry Holmes and Muhammad Ali . He currently has 17 consecutive title defenses, behind Joe Louis's 25 consecutive title defenses and Larry Holmes's 19 consecutive title defenses. On October 13, 2013, Boxrec rated Klitschko as the number two pound-for-pound fighter in the world. On 15 November 2014, he reached a career peak of number two on the pound-for-pound list of The Ring. Klitschko is second on the all-time list for most heavyweight title fights with 26, behind only Joe Louis with 27.
Some media reported that Klitschko had been previously dating Yvonne Catterfeld; the relationship was played up in German comedies Keinohrhasen and Zweiohrküken. After Wladimir's photo session held for Vanity Fair magazine with Karolína Kurková, she claimed to have a romantic relationship with the boxer.
In 2009, Klitschko began dating American actress Hayden Panettiere.Panettiere has appeared ringside at some of Klitschko's fights, including at Klitschko's 10th round KO victory over Samuel Peter. The couple broke up in May 2011, but as of April 2013 had rekindled their relationship. In October 2013, Panettiere confirmed that she and Klitschko are engaged, which had been rumoured since the summer.
On 29 March 2012, during a charitable auction in Kiev, Ukraine, Wladimir auctioned off his 1996 Olympic gold medal to a buyer who bid $1 million. Klitschko said he would use the money to help the dreams of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian children. After the sale, the buyer immediately returned the medal out of respect for Wladimir and because he wanted it to remain with the Klitschko family.
On 6 December 2013, Klitschko and his fiancée Hayden Panettiere visited the Euromaidan-protests in Kiev. His brother Vitali is one of the leading figures of these protests. He and his fiancée addressed the crowds. In late 2014, Panettiere and Klitschko welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Kaya
