On restoring trust
We will look in Davos at all the burning issues like geographical conflicts, the future of the economy, social inclusion, and so on. But the key factor is trust. How can we restore trust in our future in our institutions?
Trust is not only related to ethical behaviour. Trust means a leadership responsibility, where you respond to the needs of those who have trusted you with leadership, and here we have to start in Davos. We are leaders in Davos, so we should show our trustworthiness in caring for those who are outside the Congress hall.
We also have to restore trust between the public sector and the private sector. As we have seen in statistics, the trust between those parts of society never have been as low as it is now.
On the New Global Context
We also have to recreate confidence in our future. Pessimism has become too much the zeitgeist of our time. We have so many opportunities, but we have to recognise that the world has fundamentally changed, and that’s the reason why we have given to this Annual Meeting the theme of the new context.
So we will explore, what are the fundamental forces at work technologically, socially, economically which require new dimensions for our decision making and here I think we should particularly concentrate on the opportunities, and not only on the threats.

Klaus Schwab was born in Germany in 1938. He holds two doctoral degrees, one in mechanical engineering and another in economics and social sciences, and started his professional life as the youngest professor at the University of Geneva. He is the recipient of numerous awards and holds honorary professorships and doctorates from universities around the world. Schwab founded the Forum in 1971. In 1998, he and his wife Hilde created the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, which supports social initiatives that significantly improve people’s lives and can be reproduced on a global scale. In 2014, hoping to integrate more young people into global decision-making processes, Schwab established the Forum of Young Global Leaders for leaders under the age of 40. Seven years later, he created the Global Shapers Community, for potential leaders between the ages of 20 and 30.
Forum u Davosu, utemeljen 1971., rado se naziva "laboratorijem ideja" na kojemu se raspravlja o važnim pitanjima koja utječu na budućnost svijeta. Otkako je utemeljen postao je neizostavni dio godišnjeg političkog i gospodarskog kalendara.
WEF se opisuje kao "neovisnu međunarodnu organizaciju posvećenu unapređenju stanja u svijetu, koja, pozivajući političke, znanstvene i ostale vodeće ličnosti društva, pomaže u oblikovanju globalnih, regionalnih i ekonomskih agendi". U Davos se strogo dolazi samo na poziv organizatora.
